DESCRIPTION:Sunday 8 June\, 11am-12noon\n\nThe Great Exhibition Road Festival is a completely free annual celebration of science and the arts each summer in South Kensington. Join us on 7-8 June 2025 for a weekend of free science and arts events for all ages.\n\nFamilies with neurodivergent members (e.g. people with autism spectrum conditions or sensory processing difficulties) can book onto a quieter\, calmer exploration of the Family Fun Zone with fewer crowds at 11am on Sunday 8 June. Most of the Family Fun Zone activities will be open\, and you can meet scientists and engineers\, join in with experiments\, play games\, sing songs\, enjoy stories and do arts and crafts. You’re more than welcome to stay on after the Festival has opened too!\n\nThe Family Fun Zone has trees for shade\, grass to play on or spaces to sit and relax. If you need any help or advice\, speak to one of our friendly volunteers or members of staff\, who’ll be wearing pink high-vis jackets.\nRegister here for the relaxed session\, and please email festival@imperial.ac.uk if we can help in any way.

Our outside activities will start at 11.00\, so you are welcome to stay and enjoy these whilst it is quieter earlier in the day. \nHere is a little taster of some of the activities you can enjoy inside the Crick as part of the relaxed opening: \n\nFruit Piano – make an apple sing! Turn fresh fruit into musical keys and explore sensors\, coding\, and electronics.\nRainbow Mixing – create dazzling rainbow patterns by controlling colourful liquids. Discover how science\, electronics\, and coding come together in cool tech used by researchers.\nCrick News – lights\, camera\, action! Take the spotlight and interview a scientist to ask your burning questions and learn more about life in the lab at the Crick.\n\nAfter you’ve booked your tickets\, we will send out more information the week before the event\, so you can plan your time at the Crick with your family. \nOur relaxed opening is especially suitable for children\, young people\, and families with members who are autistic\, neurodivergent\, have sensory needs or anyone who would benefit from visiting the museum when it is less crowded. This event is suitable for families with children aged 6+. \nPlease book the correct number of tickets for your family group\, under one booking. Each individual needs their own ticket to attend. This sessions are designed for visitors who experience sensory sensitivities\, neurodivergent individuals\, people with neurological conditions\, and anyone who would appreciate a quieter\, less crowded experience. Families\, friends\, and carers are warmly welcome. \nDuring Relaxed Hour\, there are no lighting effects or music in the gallery. It’s completely fine to talk or make noise in the space\, and ear defenders are available upon request. \nThis is a ticketed event to help manage reduced capacity and ensure comfort for all visitors. Tickets are free\, and donations are welcome. \nAbout the exhibition\nRemembering is the first solo institutional exhibition of Arpita Singh outside India\, featuring key works selected in close collaboration with the artist from her prolific career spanning more than six decades. Arpita Singh was born in 1937 in Baranagar\, then Bengal Presidency\, now West Bengal\, and moved to New Delhi with her family in 1946 where she has since lived and worked. Join this session to explore drawing and designing with light! \nThis session will explore the idea of ‘home’. As a family you’ll get to design\, build and draw using projections\, fabrics and UV lights. Play with light and dark\, reflections\, shadows\, and colours. Create and experiment using a mixture of different art materials to make colourful projections in the space. \nIf you need a break\, there will be a breakout space available through the day\, with one within the event space and the other nearby. This space will have: a blackout tent\, cushions\, sensory toys\, and ear defenders. \nAll activities are optional\, and you can visit at any point during the event timings\, between 11am – 4pm. However\, please book your tickets to give us an idea if you’re likely to visit us earlier 11am-1:30pm\, or later in the day 1:30-4pm. \nThis session is inspired by Rachel Sale Adobe’s Illustration resident at South Kensington V&A\, and the Museum’s collection. These sessions are created and led by Groundswell Arts. \nThis is an activity for families where either a child or the parent/ carer/ guardian has a neurodiversity or sensory processing disorder. This is a free\, drop-in event for families to enjoy all together; no child can be left unattended. DESCRIPTION:This event welcomes people with disabilities\, neurodivergent individuals and anyone with sensory needs seeking a calmer environment in which to visit the Hiroshige: artist of the open road exhibition.\nThe first exhibition on Hiroshige to be held at the British Museum\, and the first on the artist in London for more than a quarter of a century\, this is a visually stunning portrait of a country about to change forever. \nFrom fashionable figures and energetic city views to remote landscapes and impressions of the natural world\, Utagawa Hiroshige (1797–1858) captured many aspects of life in the Japan of his time. Stunning bird-and-flower prints reveal his poetic feeling for nature while his evocative landscapes reflected the growing interest in travel across Japan. Hiroshige portrayed his world sometimes as it was\, but often the way he imagined it could be. \nThe exhibition features prints\, drawings\, illustrated books and paintings from the British Museum collection\, as well as a significant gift and loan of prints from Alan Medaugh\, a major US collector of Hiroshige’s work\, and other important loans. As well as exploring Hiroshige’s incredible body of work\, this show considers his global legacy\, which spans from Japan’s Edo period (1615–1868) through to Vincent van Gogh and contemporary artists such as Julian Opie. \nThis event is part of the public programme supporting Hiroshige: artist of the open road (1 May – 7 September 2025). \nBooking information\n\nBook now(Opens in new window) to reserve your place.\nPlease meet at the Montague Place entrance at 6.30pm. One ticket per person\, and one member of the group needs to be aged 5-25 with autism spectrum conditions or sensory processing differences. Drop-in workshops are most suitable for ages 8-14. Drinks and snacks will be available. Join us for a free morning or afternoon event specifically designed for children and young people with autism spectrum conditions or sensory processing differences. The event offers children and young people the opportunity to visit the museum without the distraction of other visitors\, accompanied by their families\, carers or friends. Throughout each session there will be drop-in cartoon workshops with our cartoonist Steve Marchant\, as well as a self-led trail of the museum – or you can just use the time to explore the museum at your own pace. We cannot be responsible for any attendees. You will experience a feast for the senses as you handle genuine objects from staff and passengers of Concorde and enjoy an item from the menu! This experience is particularly suited to neurodivergent people and those with sensory needs.
