DESCRIPTION:SENDsational Mornings at Tring\n\n\nAn opportunity for children with neurodiverse conditions to enjoy the Museum at a quieter time. \n\nBook your tickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSunday 1 February and Sunday 24 May\, 10:00–12:00 \n\n\n\nFree\, booking required \n\n\n\nThe Natural History Museum at Tring \n\n\n\n\nRelaxed visit\n\n\n\nPre-visit information (PDF 185KB)Pre-visit visual guide (PDF 3.5MB)\n\n\nWe are excited to present SENDsational Mornings at Tring\, Hertfordshire. \nOur SENDsational mornings offer children with neurodiverse conditions\, including autism and other sensory processing difficulties\, the chance to take part in activities and enjoy our galleries with their families and siblings away from the hustle and bustle of the general public. \nThis event is best for children aged five to 15 and siblings are welcome. \nWhat can you expect from the experience? \n\nVisitors have access to a few activities including specimen handling\, crafting and a gallery trail.\nAll activities are supported by experienced\, autism-aware facilitators.\nA sensory space will be available for those children needing a quieter and calmer space.\nAll of the galleries\, outdoor spaces and the shop will be accessible throughout the event.\nEach event has a different theme. In February it’s Deserts\, in May it’s rainforests\, in August it’s Oceans and in November it’s Autumn.\n\nWalk-ups are not possible – you must have a ticket. Adult tickets are limited to three per group. \nWe will email more information about your visit a week in advance\, to help you prepare for your visit. In 1956\, London Transport launched a recruitment campaign in the Caribbean\, inviting people to work on buses\, stations\, canteens and track maintenance. They found important jobs in hospitals\, factories and also in London Transport (what we know today as Transport for London). \nDonald Hinds was originally from Jamaica and moved to London\, where he worked as a bus conductor. \nWhat did a bus conductor do? \n\nSold tickets in the bus\nHelped passengers get on and off\nHelped with directions\nKept everyone safe\n\nFun fact\nIn the 1960s\, bus conductors helped Londoners get around long before modern Oyster cards and contactless payment existed!

Details of where these areas are located can be found in the visual walkthrough. There will be signage at the event.\nThe exhibitions are designed to encourage visitors to consider the experiences of people during conflict. In our First World War Galleries\, there is a short\, optional section that takes visitors through a replica trench. The floor in this area is textured\, with low lighting and sound effects. Visitors using mobility aids\, with mobility impairments\, sensory processing differences or with buggies may wish to take extra care in this area or take an alternative route that avoids this experience.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFacilities\n· The café will be open for hot drinks and cold snacks. \n· Accessible toilets and baby change facilities are available throughout the museum and are signposted. \n· There are a small number of ear defenders and sensory backpacks containing items that may help your visit. They are available upon request on a first-come\, first-serve basis and are free to use. The Mini Museum will be open to children of any age with additional sensory needs for this inclusive play session. \nSaturday 4th April\, 10.30am-12pm \nExplore a sensory story inspired by an object from the museum’s Adventure gallery with our Play Champions. This session was developed with sensory artist Natalya Martin and is relaxed and designed with you and your child in mind. You will be invited to play with tactile and sensory materials\, helping to bring the story to life together. \nSaturday 2nd May\, 10.30am-12pm \nJoin us for a whole-family Sensory Design workshop for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities and their families. Explore our tactile library of objects and join us an open-ended exploration where there are no wrong answers. \nIn this workshop\, we invite you to have fun exploring a wide range of design materials and techniques. Supported by a visual step-by-step explanation\, you’ll assemble objects with a focus on the senses. This session has been designed for children and young people who enjoy exploring the world through touch. \nSaturday 6th June\, 10.30am-12pm \nExplore the Mini Museum in Young V&A’s Play Gallery\, a space that celebrates the texture\, colour and sound of objects. This session is relaxed and designed with you and your child in mind. Children and their carers will be invited to enjoy the space and to play together with tactile and sensory materials. The Mini Museum will be open to children of any age with additional sensory needs for this inclusive play session. \nFurther information: \nFor Saturday 7th February and Saturday 2nd May: \n\nThe session will be held in Open studio on the first floor in the Design Gallery at Young V&A. Our building has step-free access to all public areas.\nLifts are on the right as you enter the Town Square and at the back of the Imagine Gallery. In line with the museum’s approach to fire safety\, a maximum of six mobility impaired persons may occupy the first floor at any one time.\nOn the same floor is The Factory\, a quieter\, dimmed space with a process video playing.\n\n\nFor Saturday 14th February\, 7th March and Saturday 6th June:\n\nThe session will be held in the Mini Museum in the Play Gallery at Young V&A\, which can be accessed via the ramp. Our building has step-free access to all public areas.\nThe Mini Museum is usually reserved for children aged 2 and under. For this inclusive play session\, it will be open to children of any age with additional sensory needs. Our Play Champions will support visitors to safely share the space together. The Mini Museum will return to being exclusively for children aged 2 and under from 12 noon.\n\n\nFor Saturday 4th April:\n\nThis session will be held in The Stage on the ground floor in the Imagine Gallery at Young V&A. Our building has step-free access to all public areas.\n\n\n\n\nOur visual story shows you pictures of the museum and how to access our spaces. Please check our Access page for further information.\nThis is a family event. Children must be accompanied by an adult during the workshop.\nVisitors will be welcome to move around\, make noise and leave or re-enter the session throughout.\nEar defenders are always available on request at our reception.\nThe activities will be mainly floor based\, and we have a range of seating available.\nWe know that visiting a museum as a family requires lots of planning. We turn off bathroom hand dryers\, implement adaptations to staff operations such as using earpieces for radios\, and do not use the tannoy system. \nThe session begins at 09.30 and ends at 11.00. \nTicket cost £1.00 \nThis offer was formally known as Rise and Roar. The name\, price and age range of the event has changed owing to the launch of our new Relaxed Events Programme for Children and Families. The change was made to bring these two offers closer to each other. Visitors will be able to: \n\nTake inspiration from the Artemis missions with some space exploration themed hands-on workshops and craft activities.\nTake part in our out-of-this-world Space Show.\nJoin our Explainer team on a journey through the Solar System with one of our Space on a Sphere talks.\nExplore the Star Trek Warp Trail in a quieter environment and discover how this legendary sci-fi franchise inspired real-world science.\nExplore our museum galleries including the iconic objects in our Space gallery.\n\nEarly Birds visitors will also have an opportunity to book tickets to lower capacity sessions in Wonderlab and Power Up at a reduced rate. \nThere will also be quiet areas for those needing to take a break. Completed in 1622 as part of the grand Palace of Whitehall\, the magnificent Banqueting House is the only building to survive the devastating fire of 1698.  \nStep inside James I’s ‘great hall’ and gaze up at nine breathtaking ceiling paintings by Rubens – the only surviving in-situ Rubens ceiling painting.
