Please note that charges apply for all parking at IWM North.\nIf the museum is busy\, there will be one tannoy announcement during this event at 4:45 pm\, alerting existing visitors that the museum will be closing to members of the public not in attendance for the Relaxed Hours session. Fifteen minutes before closing at 5:45 pm\, you will be approached by staff to let you know about the upcoming closure.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nExhibition Information\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur free temporary exhibition\, Spies\, Lies and Deception\, will be open to visitors. There is a family trail to accompany the exhibition\, which you are welcome to take part in. There is background noise in this exhibition\, which will be played at a lower volume during your visit.\nThe IWM North building is designed to encourage visitors to consider the confusion experienced during conflict. As a result\, the floor of the Main Exhibition Space has a gentle slope and visitors with mobility impairments\, mobility aids\, sensory processing differences\, or buggies may wish to take extra care in this area.\nThere will be Big Picture Shows played in the Main Exhibition Space at 4pm and 5pm. During the shows\, the Main Exhibition Space will be dark\, and the film will be projected around the walls. The shows will play at a lower volume than usual and contain no sudden loud sound effects.\nAt 4pm the show is called The Roads We Walked: The Fifth Pan-African Congress. The show celebrates the 80th Anniversary of the Fifth Pan-African Congress\, which took place in Manchester in 1945. At 5pm the show is called Animals and War which explores the stories of brave animal heroes from the First World War to the present day. Anyone not wishing to watch is welcome to leave the Main Exhibition Space and return later\, should they wish to continue exploring. Ear defenders will be available and staff and volunteers will be on hand to help.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFacilities\n\n\n\nAccessible toilets and baby change facilities are available on the ground floor and are signposted.\nThere are a small number of ear defenders and sensory backpacks containing items that may help your visit. Details of where these areas are located can be found in the visual walkthrough. There will be signage at the event.\nThe exhibitions are designed to encourage visitors to consider the experiences of people during conflict. In our First World War Galleries\, there is a short\, optional section that takes visitors through a replica trench. The floor in this area is textured\, with low lighting and sound effects. These sessions prioritise sensory comfort without compromising on the overall Dynamic Earth experience. \nWe are looking forward to our next Relaxed Opening Hours Day on Sunday 1st March 2026.  We want everyone to have the entire day to fully experience all that Dynamic Earth has to offer. Explore textiles and textile processes and join us an open-ended exploration where there are no wrong answers. This session has been designed for children and young people who enjoy exploring the world through touch. \nAlongside the workshop\, our Designer in the Shed\, Amanda Vesthardt will open her sensory installation for families to explore. \nSaturday 14th February\, 10.30am-12pm (half term session) \nExplore the Mini Museum in Young V&A’s Play Gallery\, a space that celebrates the texture\, colour and sound of objects. This session is relaxed and designed with you and your child in mind. Children and their carers will be invited to enjoy the space and to play together with tactile and sensory materials. The Mini Museum will be open to children of any age with additional sensory needs for this inclusive play session. \nSaturday 7th March\, 10.30am-12pm \nExplore the Mini Museum in Young V&A’s Play Gallery\, a space that celebrates the texture\, colour and sound of objects. This session is relaxed and designed with you and your child in mind. Children and their carers will be invited to enjoy the space and to play together with tactile and sensory materials. The Mini Museum will be open to children of any age with additional sensory needs for this inclusive play session. \nSaturday 4th April\, 10.30am-12pm \nExplore a sensory story inspired by an object from the museum’s Adventure gallery with our Play Champions. This session was developed with sensory artist Natalya Martin and is relaxed and designed with you and your child in mind. You will be invited to play with tactile and sensory materials\, helping to bring the story to life together. \nSaturday 2nd May\, 10.30am-12pm \nJoin us for a whole-family Sensory Design workshop for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities and their families. Explore our tactile library of objects and join us an open-ended exploration where there are no wrong answers. \nIn this workshop\, we invite you to have fun exploring a wide range of design materials and techniques. Supported by a visual step-by-step explanation\, you’ll assemble objects with a focus on the senses. This session has been designed for children and young people who enjoy exploring the world through touch. \nSaturday 6th June\, 10.30am-12pm \nExplore the Mini Museum in Young V&A’s Play Gallery\, a space that celebrates the texture\, colour and sound of objects. This session is relaxed and designed with you and your child in mind. Children and their carers will be invited to enjoy the space and to play together with tactile and sensory materials. The Mini Museum will be open to children of any age with additional sensory needs for this inclusive play session. \nFurther information: \nFor Saturday 7th February and Saturday 2nd May: \n\nThe session will be held in Open studio on the first floor in the Design Gallery at Young V&A. Our building has step-free access to all public areas.\nLifts are on the right as you enter the Town Square and at the back of the Imagine Gallery. In line with the museum’s approach to fire safety\, a maximum of six mobility impaired persons may occupy the first floor at any one time.\nOn the same floor is The Factory\, a quieter\, dimmed space with a process video playing.\n\n\nFor Saturday 14th February\, 7th March and Saturday 6th June:\n\nThe session will be held in the Mini Museum in the Play Gallery at Young V&A\, which can be accessed via the ramp. Our building has step-free access to all public areas.\nThe Mini Museum is usually reserved for children aged 2 and under. For this inclusive play session\, it will be open to children of any age with additional sensory needs. Our Play Champions will support visitors to safely share the space together. The Mini Museum will return to being exclusively for children aged 2 and under from 12 noon.\n\n\nFor Saturday 4th April:\n\nThis session will be held in The Stage on the ground floor in the Imagine Gallery at Young V&A. Our building has step-free access to all public areas.\n\n\n\n\nOur visual story shows you pictures of the museum and how to access our spaces. Please check our Access page for further information.\nThis is a family event. Children must be accompanied by an adult during the workshop.\nVisitors will be welcome to move around\, make noise and leave or re-enter the session throughout.\nEar defenders are always available on request at our reception.\nThe activities will be mainly floor based\, and we have a range of seating available.\nWe know that visiting a museum as a family requires lots of planning.
