Enjoy the Library free from the hustle and bustle of the general public. \nAt this special early opening\, you’ll get the opportunity to visit our Medieval Women: In Their Own Words exhibition and take part in a workshop in our Learning Centre. Join storyteller Emily from Dragonfly Tales on a sensory storytelling journey through the lives of Medieval Women. \nA dedicated sensory room will also be available for children needing a quieter and calmer space. \nThis event is free and suitable for parents and carers with children aged 5 – 15 years and their siblings. \nAll visitors to this special early opening will receive a visual story in advance to provide an idea of what to expect on arrival. Please note that the Library opens to the general public at 11.00.

Join this session to explore drawing and designing with light! \nAs a family you’ll get to design\, make and draw using lightboxes and overhead projectors. Play with light and dark\, reflections\, shadows\, and colours. Create and experiment using a mixture of different art materials to make colourful projections in the space.\nIf you need a break\, there will be a breakout space available through the day\, with one within the event space and the other nearby. This space will have: a blackout tent\, cushions\, sensory toys\, and ear defenders. \nAll activities are optional\, and you can visit at any point during the event timings\, between 11am – 4pm. However\, please book your tickets to give us an idea if you’re likely to visit us earlier 11am-1:30pm\, or later in the day 1:30-4pm. \nThis session is inspired by Rachel Sale 2024 Adobe’s Illustration resident at South Kensington V&A\, and the Museum’s collection. These sessions are created and led by Groundswell Arts. \nThis is an activity for families where either a child or the parent/ carer/ guardian has a neurodiversity or sensory processing disorder. This is a free\, drop-in event for families to enjoy all together; no child can be left unattended.
