DESCRIPTION:Professional story teller Olivia Amstrong will bring to life a brand new sci fi story. This story is about an meteor landing on earth and giving humans super powers. Will they use these powers for good or for evil? The story has been created by Evan Bond our current Young Cartoonist in Resident.\n\nThe story will last around 25 minutes. Olivia brings the story to life with props and her energy. Children will come away knowing a brand new story and having had a fantastic time.\n\nOur relaxed events are specifically designed for children and young people (aged between 5-25) with Autism spectrum conditions or sensory processing differences.\n \nTickets are £5 per child. DESCRIPTION:This event welcomes people with disabilities\, neurodivergent individuals and anyone with sensory needs seeking a calmer environment in which to view the Samurai exhibition.\nDiscover the reality behind a millennium of myth at this sweeping exhibition on the legendary Japanese warriors. The samurai is an iconic figure\, evoking images of formidable fighters possessing ideals of courage\, honour and self-sacrifice. Yet much of what we think we know about samurai is invented tradition. \nOur concept of samurai today has its origins in medieval reality. A distinct warrior class – known in Japan as bushi – emerged and gained political dominance from the 1100s. But during a prolonged period of peace\, beginning in 1615\, the samurai moved away from the battlefield to become an elite social class that also included women. Samurai men formed the government\, serving as ministers and bureaucrats. DESCRIPTION:31st March: Autistic Girls Workshops\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOverview\n\nCome along to this arts and crafts session designed for autistic girls to get creative together. This workshop will be hosted by Bex Knight\, who is an autistic woman herself and has worked with us over the years to create our access comics\, which you’ll be able to see in person on the day! During this session\, participants will make physical objects using their own drawings and art\, coming out of it with their own key rings\, stickers and badges! There will also be snacks on offer and breaks during the session.\n\nAges 8-14: 12:00pm – 2:00pm\nAges 15-19: 3:00pm – 5:00pm\n\n15 tickets per session so booking is essential. The Mini Museum will be open to children of any age with additional sensory needs for this inclusive play session. \nFurther information: \nFor Saturday 7th February and Saturday 2nd May: \n\nThe session will be held in Open studio on the first floor in the Design Gallery at Young V&A. Our building has step-free access to all public areas.\nLifts are on the right as you enter the Town Square and at the back of the Imagine Gallery. In line with the museum’s approach to fire safety\, a maximum of six mobility impaired persons may occupy the first floor at any one time.\nOn the same floor is The Factory\, a quieter\, dimmed space with a process video playing.\n\n\nFor Saturday 14th February\, 7th March and Saturday 6th June:\n\nThe session will be held in the Mini Museum in the Play Gallery at Young V&A\, which can be accessed via the ramp. It brings together remarkable objects – from feathered cloaks worn by chiefs and finely carved deities\, to powerful shark-toothed weapons and bold contemporary works by Kānaka ʻŌiwi (Native Hawaiian) artists. \nIn 1824\, the young King Liholiho and Queen Kamāmalu travelled across vast oceans on a journey that would mark a turning point in the history of their kingdom\, Hawaiʻi. DESCRIPTION:13 February – 17 May 2026\nDenise Coates Exhibition Galleries\, Floor 3 \n★★★★★ “Tremendous” – The Guardian\n“The magic of Seurat’s seascapes” – The Times\n“Unmissable” – Time Out \nThe Courtauld presents the first ever exhibition dedicated to the seascapes of the French artist Georges Seurat (1859–1891). This major\, focused display is the first devoted to Seurat in the UK in almost 30 years. It charts the evolution of his radical and distinctive style through the recurring motif of the sea. \nThe Courtauld holds the largest collection of works by Seurat in the UK. The artist is best known as the creator of the Neo-Impressionist technique\, in which shapes and light are rendered by juxtaposing small dots of pure colour. Due to his early death at the age of 31\, Seurat has a very small pool of works and exhibitions devoted to him are rare. \nThe Griffin Catalyst Exhibition: Seurat and the Sea brings together 26 paintings\, oil sketches and drawings made by Seurat during the five summers he spent on the northern coast of France\, between 1885 and 1890. Working in port towns along the English Channel\, including Honfleur\, Port-en-Bessin and Gravelines\, Seurat captured their seascapes\, regattas and port activity in his distinctive Neo-Impressionist technique. He sought\, in his words\, ‘to wash his eyes of the days spent in the studio [in Paris] and to translate in the most faithful manner the bright clarity\, in all its nuances’. \nThese works are an important counterpoint to his Parisian works\, which are better known and more widely studied. The samurai is an iconic figure\, evoking images of formidable fighters possessing ideals of courage\, honour and self-sacrifice. Yet much of what we think we know about samurai is invented tradition. \nOur concept of samurai today has its origins in medieval reality. A distinct warrior class – known in Japan as bushi – emerged and gained political dominance from the 1100s. But during a prolonged period of peace\, beginning in 1615\, the samurai moved away from the battlefield to become an elite social class that also included women. Samurai men formed the government\, serving as ministers and bureaucrats. DESCRIPTION:13 February – 17 May 2026\nDenise Coates Exhibition Galleries\, Floor 3 \n★★★★★ “Tremendous” – The Guardian\n“The magic of Seurat’s seascapes” – The Times\n“Unmissable” – Time Out \nThe Courtauld presents the first ever exhibition dedicated to the seascapes of the French artist Georges Seurat (1859–1891). This major\, focused display is the first devoted to Seurat in the UK in almost 30 years. It charts the evolution of his radical and distinctive style through the recurring motif of the sea. \nThe Courtauld holds the largest collection of works by Seurat in the UK. The artist is best known as the creator of the Neo-Impressionist technique\, in which shapes and light are rendered by juxtaposing small dots of pure colour. Due to his early death at the age of 31\, Seurat has a very small pool of works and exhibitions devoted to him are rare. \nThe Griffin Catalyst Exhibition: Seurat and the Sea brings together 26 paintings\, oil sketches and drawings made by Seurat during the five summers he spent on the northern coast of France\, between 1885 and 1890. Working in port towns along the English Channel\, including Honfleur\, Port-en-Bessin and Gravelines\, Seurat captured their seascapes\, regattas and port activity in his distinctive Neo-Impressionist technique. He sought\, in his words\, ‘to wash his eyes of the days spent in the studio [in Paris] and to translate in the most faithful manner the bright clarity\, in all its nuances’. \nThese works are an important counterpoint to his Parisian works\, which are better known and more widely studied. They found important jobs in hospitals\, factories and also in London Transport (what we know today as Transport for London). \nDonald Hinds was originally from Jamaica and moved to London\, where he worked as a bus conductor. \nWhat did a bus conductor do? \n\nSold tickets in the bus\nHelped passengers get on and off\nHelped with directions\nKept everyone safe\n\nFun fact\nIn the 1960s\, bus conductors helped Londoners get around long before modern Oyster cards and contactless payment existed!

Explore textiles and textile processes and join us an open-ended exploration where there are no wrong answers. This session has been designed for children and young people who enjoy exploring the world through touch. \nAlongside the workshop\, our Designer in the Shed\, Amanda Vesthardt will open her sensory installation for families to explore. \nSaturday 14th February\, 10.30am-12pm (half term session) \nExplore the Mini Museum in Young V&A’s Play Gallery\, a space that celebrates the texture\, colour and sound of objects. This session is relaxed and designed with you and your child in mind. Children and their carers will be invited to enjoy the space and to play together with tactile and sensory materials. The Mini Museum will be open to children of any age with additional sensory needs for this inclusive play session. \nSaturday 7th March\, 10.30am-12pm \nExplore the Mini Museum in Young V&A’s Play Gallery\, a space that celebrates the texture\, colour and sound of objects. This session is relaxed and designed with you and your child in mind. Children and their carers will be invited to enjoy the space and to play together with tactile and sensory materials. The Mini Museum will be open to children of any age with additional sensory needs for this inclusive play session. \nSaturday 4th April\, 10.30am-12pm \nExplore a sensory story inspired by an object from the museum’s Adventure gallery with our Play Champions. This session was developed with sensory artist Natalya Martin and is relaxed and designed with you and your child in mind. You will be invited to play with tactile and sensory materials\, helping to bring the story to life together. \nSaturday 2nd May\, 10.30am-12pm \nJoin us for a whole-family Sensory Design workshop for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities and their families. Explore our tactile library of objects and join us an open-ended exploration where there are no wrong answers. \nIn this workshop\, we invite you to have fun exploring a wide range of design materials and techniques. Supported by a visual step-by-step explanation\, you’ll assemble objects with a focus on the senses. This session has been designed for children and young people who enjoy exploring the world through touch. \nSaturday 6th June\, 10.30am-12pm \nExplore the Mini Museum in Young V&A’s Play Gallery\, a space that celebrates the texture\, colour and sound of objects. This session is relaxed and designed with you and your child in mind. Children and their carers will be invited to enjoy the space and to play together with tactile and sensory materials. The Mini Museum will be open to children of any age with additional sensory needs for this inclusive play session. \nFurther information: \nFor Saturday 7th February and Saturday 2nd May: \n\nThe session will be held in Open studio on the first floor in the Design Gallery at Young V&A. Our building has step-free access to all public areas.\nLifts are on the right as you enter the Town Square and at the back of the Imagine Gallery. In line with the museum’s approach to fire safety\, a maximum of six mobility impaired persons may occupy the first floor at any one time.\nOn the same floor is The Factory\, a quieter\, dimmed space with a process video playing.\n\n\nFor Saturday 14th February\, 7th March and Saturday 6th June:\n\nThe session will be held in the Mini Museum in the Play Gallery at Young V&A\, which can be accessed via the ramp. Our building has step-free access to all public areas.\nThe Mini Museum is usually reserved for children aged 2 and under. For this inclusive play session\, it will be open to children of any age with additional sensory needs. Our Play Champions will support visitors to safely share the space together. The Mini Museum will return to being exclusively for children aged 2 and under from 12 noon.\n\n\nFor Saturday 4th April:\n\nThis session will be held in The Stage on the ground floor in the Imagine Gallery at Young V&A. Our building has step-free access to all public areas.\n\n\n\n\nOur visual story shows you pictures of the museum and how to access our spaces. Please check our Access page for further information.\nThis is a family event. Children must be accompanied by an adult during the workshop.\nVisitors will be welcome to move around\, make noise and leave or re-enter the session throughout.\nEar defenders are always available on request at our reception.\nThe activities will be mainly floor based\, and we have a range of seating available.\nWe know that visiting a museum as a family requires lots of planning. Young V&A is participating in the programme alongside the Institute of Imagination\, Save the Children\, EasyPeasy and Ambition Aspire Achieve.

At these sessions you can meet other people\, see artworks in our gallery spaces and take part in creative activities.
