DESCRIPTION:We will open our gates an hour early at 9am for a Quiet Hour for our annual fun filled Emergency Services Day – where you will see a wide variety of emergency vehicles and pieces of apparatus used in our emergency services.  This will be an impressive line-up of current serving vehicles and older historic vehicles with no sirens or flashing lights operating for the Quiet Hour period. \nWe will also open our Motoring Village which includes the Jackson shed – British Grand Prix: Where it all began\, Campbell ERA Shed – Fastest on earth: Racing Legends of Brooklands and the Barnes Wallis’ Stratosphere Chamber for visitors who are neurodivergent to enjoy these areas of the Museum\, free from the hustle and bustle of our normal opening hours. \nOur Sunbeam Café will be open for our ‘Brooklands Breakfast offer’ and our family activities will be running from 9am. \nThe Museum will then be open as normal from 10am – 5pm when all our exhibit areas will be open.

What inspired depictions of the serene Buddha and Jain enlightened teachers? \nReaching back more than 2\,000 years\, this new exhibition explores the origins of Hindu\, Jain and Buddhist sacred art in the ancient and powerful nature spirits of India\, and the spread of this art beyond the subcontinent. \nFrom the symbolic footprints which preceded portrayals of the Buddha in human form to the cosmic serpents incorporated into Hindu art and the nature spirits who attend Jain enlightened teachers\, this compelling exhibition tells the ancient stories behind these living traditions. \nThis event is part of the public programme supporting Ancient India: living traditions (22 May – 19 October 2025). \nBooking information\n\nBook now(Opens in new window) to reserve your place.\nPlease meet at the Montague Place entrance at 6.30pm. DESCRIPTION:Come along to our Sensory Friendly monthly workshop for neurodiverse visitors of all ages and their families.  \nAs a family you’ll get to design\, make\, experiment and draw using lightboxes\, overhead projectors and a range of materials. Play with light and dark\, reflections\, shadows\, and colours.  \nIf you need a break\, there will be a breakout space available through the day\, with one within the event space and the other nearby. This space will have: a blackout tent\, cushions\, sensory toys\, and ear defenders. \nAll activities are optional\, and you can visit at any point during the event timings\, between 11am – 4pm. However\, please book your tickets to give us an idea if you’re likely to visit us earlier 11am-1:30pm\, or later in the day 1:30-4pm. \nThese sessions are created and led by Groundswell Arts. \nThis is an activity for families where either a child or the parent/ carer/ guardian has a neurodiversity or sensory processing disorder. This is a free\, drop-in event for families to enjoy all together; no child can be left unattended. Suitable for ages 5+. \nAll materials will be provided\, all sourced sustainably. DESCRIPTION:A relaxed morning event for Neurodivergent\, Learning Disabled children and their families/friends\nSkip the event ticket details and go to event summary. \n When\nSunday 28 September 2025 \n09:00 – 11:00\n Booking information\nTicketing for this event is £1.00 per person.  \nIf you wish to remain in the Tower of London after 11:00\, you may do so. \nSeparate ticket (advance booking required) \nBuy relaxed event tickets\nEvents\nFamilies\nStart of the events summary\nRelaxed events at the Tower of London are for Neurodivergent and Learning Disabled children & their families (5-16). \nWe welcome all families who identify as Neurodivergent or Learning Disabled including ADHD\, Autism\, Anxiety\, OCD\, Tourette’s and all other sensory and processing difficulties. \nEnjoy two hours at the Tower of London free from crowds between the hours of 9:00-11:00. \nThe event will include free entry to The Tower of London\, the Crown Jewels and access to relaxed and SEN programming lead by disability aware contractors and facilitators. \nCrowd levels are limited\, and access considerations have been made to ensure you and your family can enjoy the Tower\, free from loud sound effects and harsh lighting. \nA café and retail space will also be available. \nEvent information\nCrowd levels will be kept to a minimum for these events with only ticket holders being permitted entry during the event time slots. Ticketing is capped at 1500 people. \nLighting\, sound and general effects throughout the Tower grounds will be minimised or turned off for your comfort.  \nContent warnings will be placed upon spaces that may contain material audiences may find distressing.  \nAccess guides to the Tower of London are on our accessibility page. We will not ask for proof of disability or supporting documents. \nVisitors with limited mobility\nThe Tower of London is a historic building with difficult stairs and passageways – including spiral staircases – and wheelchair access is limited. There are many steps throughout the Tower with cobbles laid in some of the surfaces and pathways. There are some low doorways. \nFrequently asked questions (FAQs)\nFind out more information about Relaxed Events\, Children and Families at the Tower on our dedicated frequently asked questions. \nRelaxed Events at the Tower FAQs\nAccess information\nLevel access\nThe Jewel House\, which houses the Crown Jewels\, has level access. There is a moving walkway (‘travelator’) alongside the Crown Jewels. Our Palace Hosts will be happy to stop the travelator. \nMobility aids\nA wheelchair is available free of charge. These cannot be pre-booked and are issued on a first-come first-served basis. It can be obtained by speaking to a member of staff on entry. \nLifts and ramps\nThere is a lift in the White Tower\, which will take you to and from the shop in the basement. This is on the north side of the White Tower\, opposite the entrance to the Crown Jewels. For safety reasons\, we can only permit one wheelchair user in the basement at a time. Please ask a member of staff in the area for assistance. \nThere is a platform lift at the end of the moving walkway in the Crown Jewels exhibition\, which allows you to access the raised platform to spend more time viewing the Crown Jewels. It is not suitable for mobility scooters. Please ask a member of the Jewel House team to use the lift.

Please note the Natural History Gallery is currently closed for redevelopment and won’t be reopening until late 2026. Hand dryers in all of the toilets inside the Museum will also be turned off until 11am and paper towels will be available instead. \nWhich spaces will be open?\nThis is a special opening for The Robot Zoo exhibition located on the Lower Ground Floor. We will also be opening some of our main galleries\, details of which to be confirmed shortly. \nThe Gardens are open from 7.15am daily and are a nice place to relax in good weather. There is also a toilet block in the garden which is open until the Gardens close at 8.30pm. \nThe Museum and Café are open to everyone during the day until 5pm. \nA Chill Out space in our Education Centre will be open during the event.  Although there is no eating or drinking allowed in the Galleries you can eat and drink in the Chill Out space. \nHow do I get there?\nPlease take a look for directions on our website. This special event is for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and or Neurodivergence and their families.  \nThis is a self-guided session but there will be sensory activities\, symbol trails and fidget toys you can borrow if you like and our friendly staff will be available to help.  \nThis is the first time we have offered a relaxed opening and we’d love your feedback on the day as we plan to have more accessible activities. \nWhat to expect \nFewer visitors than usual (maximum 25\, instead of 80)\, so the Museum will be quieter than usual\, with minimal queuing outside\nLighting will be adjusted for a calm experience\nNoise will be adjusted where possible\, with hand driers in the toilets switched off and hand towels available instead\nA selection of tactile materials related to the Museum will be available to touch\nA chill out space will be available – just ask one of our friendly staff\nVisual story and a SEND family trail will be made available shortly\nVisiting & access information \nWe are in a Grade I listed\, 19th-century building\, so access to the Museum isn’t always straightforward. When planning your visit\, it might be useful to know the following: \nPlease get in touch before your visit and we’ll do everything we can to make sure you have a positive experience. Rhiannon\, our Public Programmes & Young People Manager\, will be in touch with everyone who books in advance of the session to learn about their access needs\nDue to the historic nature of the space\, we are only able to accommodate one wheelchair user per Relaxed Opening slot\nEverything in the Museum is on open display\, and we ask visitors not to touch anything\nThere is historic furniture throughout the Museum – please don’t sit on the chairs. Please ask our friendly staff if you need to sit down\nThe Museum has some uneven flooring\, with grilles in some places\, through which you can see the floor below\nThe walls are covered with objects\, some of which are extremely fragile\nSome areas are dark and narrow\nPlease note that the Museum will open to the public at 10am\, when we will remove the sensory baskets. October 27.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOverview\nOur free Relaxed Monday events have been specifically designed for children and young people with autism spectrum conditions or sensory processing differences.\nEvents this year: February 17th. April 7th. May 26th. July 28th. August 4th. August 25th. October 27.Events are free\, but advance booking is essential. One ticket per person\, and one member of the group needs to be aged 5-25 with autism spectrum conditions or sensory processing differences. Drop-in workshops are most suitable for ages 8-14. Drinks and snacks will be available. Join us for a free morning or afternoon event specifically designed for children and young people with autism spectrum conditions or sensory processing differences. The event offers children and young people the opportunity to visit the museum without the distraction of other visitors\, accompanied by their families\, carers or friends. Throughout each session there will be drop-in cartoon workshops with our cartoonist Steve Marchant\, as well as a self-led trail of the museum – or you can just use the time to explore the museum at your own pace. We cannot be responsible for any attendees.
