DESCRIPTION:Families\n\n\n\nRelaxed Opening: Exploring the Classical World\nAn event for SEND and Neurodivergent Children and Young People \n\nBook Now\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe welcome you to come and explore the Classical world at the Museum at our relaxed opening. This special event is designed exclusively for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and or Neurodivergence\, and their families.  \nThis is a self-guided session but there will be sensory activities\, symbol trails and fidget toys you can borrow if you like and our friendly staff will be available to help. \nWhat to expect \n\nFewer visitors than usual (maximum 25\, instead of 80)\, so the Museum will be quieter than usual\, with minimal queuing outside\nLighting will be adjusted for a calm experience\nNoise will be adjusted where possible\, with hand driers in the toilets switched off and hand towels available instead\nA selection of tactile materials related to the Museum will be available to touch\nA chill out space will be available – just ask one of our friendly staff\nThe Visual story and a SEND family trail can be downloaded in advance from below\, and printed versions will be available to guests on the day\nPlease note that the Museum is closed to the general public on this day and open only to pre-booked guests for the Relaxed Opening\n\n  \nVisiting & access information \nWe are in a Grade I listed\, 19th-century building\, so access to the Museum isn’t always straightforward. When planning your visit\, it might be useful to know the following: \n\nPlease get in touch before your visit and we’ll do everything we can to make sure you have a positive experience. Morag\, our Learning Manager\, will be in touch with everyone who books in advance of the session\nDue to the historic nature of the space\, we are only able to accommodate one wheelchair user per Relaxed Opening slot\nEverything in the Museum is on open display\, and we ask visitors not to touch anything\nThere is historic furniture throughout the Museum – please don’t sit on the chairs. Please ask our friendly staff if you need to sit down\nThe Museum has some uneven flooring\, with grilles in some places\, through which you can see the floor below\nThe walls are covered with objects\, some of which are extremely fragile\nSome areas are dark and narrow\nTickets are free\, with limited spaces available\, and pre-booking is required. DESCRIPTION:Family Events\nFamily SEND events\n\nEarly Explorer morning:\nalong the Piccadilly line\n \nLondon Transport Museum\, London \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nExplore the Museum during October half term at a quieter time\, free from the general public and with many of the gallery sounds turned off.\nThis session is designed especially for families with children with special educational needs\, neurodivergent and disabled children. There will be a sensory space\, a quiet space and sensory bags available throughout the morning. \nThe Piccadilly line opened in 1906 and now stretches over 70km with 53 stations. In 1977\, it became the first Tube line to reach Heathrow\, connecting London to the whole world. \nToday\, it takes you to the buzz of Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square\, the stunning Buckingham Palace and Hyde Park and some of the city’s most loved museums and attractions\, from London Transport Museum to the Natural History Museum and V&A. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKey information\nAdvanced booking is essential as places are limited. Families are welcome to stay later\, general public will be admitted from 10:00. \nTickets:\nFree for children with one accompanying adult. Additional adults\, £18.50. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Piccadilly line\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPostcard; Great Northern\, Piccadilly & Brompton Railway train at Piccadilly Circus Station\, December 1906\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis postcard shows one of the platforms at Piccadilly Circus station on the Piccadilly line (then called Great Northern\, Piccadilly and Brompton Railway). It was created in 1906 – more than a century ago. \nFun facts \n\nIt is the second longest line on the Underground after the Central line\, but it has more stations.\nThe first escalator on the London Underground was opened at the Piccadilly line station at Earl’s Court in October 1911.\nThe shortest distance between stations on the Underground is on the Piccadilly line between Leicester Square and Covent Garden – just 0.26 km distance!

Whether you want to read\, relax or explore\, we’re here to make your visit enjoyable. \nThis is an autism-friendly hour with a quieter space where you can take part in a craft activity. You can also borrow books and explore the library. \nAll visitors to this special early opening will receive a visual story in advance to provide an idea of what to expect during the event. Take part in a creative workshop in the Studio\, exploring experimental mark making with artist Ian Crighton. \nThis free event is designed for children with SEND and their families and friends\, and will start before the museum opens to the general public at 10.00. \nFree\, but booking essential via families@wallacecollection.org \nAfter the event\, the Studio will be available as a space for packed lunches. Stay and join in our afternoon activities too – drop-in drawing in the galleries\, or trying on real and replica armour with our friendly Hands on Armour volunteers.
