This sessions are designed for visitors who experience sensory sensitivities\, neurodivergent individuals\, people with neurological conditions\, and anyone who would appreciate a quieter\, less crowded experience. Families\, friends\, and carers are warmly welcome. \nDuring Relaxed Hour\, there are no lighting effects or music in the gallery. It’s completely fine to talk or make noise in the space\, and ear defenders are available upon request. \nThis is a ticketed event to help manage reduced capacity and ensure comfort for all visitors. Tickets are free\, and donations are welcome. \nAbout the exhibition\nRemembering is the first solo institutional exhibition of Arpita Singh outside India\, featuring key works selected in close collaboration with the artist from her prolific career spanning more than six decades. Arpita Singh was born in 1937 in Baranagar\, then Bengal Presidency\, now West Bengal\, and moved to New Delhi with her family in 1946 where she has since lived and worked. Join this session to explore drawing and designing with light! \nThis session will explore the idea of ‘home’. As a family you’ll get to design\, build and draw using projections\, fabrics and UV lights. Play with light and dark\, reflections\, shadows\, and colours. Create and experiment using a mixture of different art materials to make colourful projections in the space. \nIf you need a break\, there will be a breakout space available through the day\, with one within the event space and the other nearby. This space will have: a blackout tent\, cushions\, sensory toys\, and ear defenders. \nAll activities are optional\, and you can visit at any point during the event timings\, between 11am – 4pm. However\, please book your tickets to give us an idea if you’re likely to visit us earlier 11am-1:30pm\, or later in the day 1:30-4pm. \nThis session is inspired by Rachel Sale Adobe’s Illustration resident at South Kensington V&A\, and the Museum’s collection. These sessions are created and led by Groundswell Arts. \nThis is an activity for families where either a child or the parent/ carer/ guardian has a neurodiversity or sensory processing disorder. DESCRIPTION:This event welcomes people with disabilities\, neurodivergent individuals and anyone with sensory needs seeking a calmer environment in which to visit the Hiroshige: artist of the open road exhibition.\nThe first exhibition on Hiroshige to be held at the British Museum\, and the first on the artist in London for more than a quarter of a century\, this is a visually stunning portrait of a country about to change forever. \nFrom fashionable figures and energetic city views to remote landscapes and impressions of the natural world\, Utagawa Hiroshige (1797–1858) captured many aspects of life in the Japan of his time. Stunning bird-and-flower prints reveal his poetic feeling for nature while his evocative landscapes reflected the growing interest in travel across Japan. Hiroshige portrayed his world sometimes as it was\, but often the way he imagined it could be. \nThe exhibition features prints\, drawings\, illustrated books and paintings from the British Museum collection\, as well as a significant gift and loan of prints from Alan Medaugh\, a major US collector of Hiroshige’s work\, and other important loans. One ticket per person\, and one member of the group needs to be aged 5-25 with autism spectrum conditions or sensory processing differences. Drop-in workshops are most suitable for ages 8-14. Join us for a free morning or afternoon event specifically designed for children and young people with autism spectrum conditions or sensory processing differences. The event offers children and young people the opportunity to visit the museum without the distraction of other visitors\, accompanied by their families\, carers or friends. DESCRIPTION:What you’ll do\nJoin us for a physical movement workshop that teaches you how to create silhouettes with your hands and body. \nThe workshop is inspired by our collections and explores the Victorian pastime of shadowgraphy. Shadowgraphy is the practice of creating shadows or silhouettes using an illuminated screen for storytelling\, self-expression and communication. \nDeaf actors David Ellington and Ciaran O’Breen will guide you through a number of techniques using hand gestures\, finger flexes and body movement. You’ll have the opportunity to invent your own shadow signs\, create a story or perform with others. \nThis workshop will be guided in BSL\, with voice over interpreters available for non-signers. \nChill-Out Room\nAny time you want to find a space away from the activities\, you can head to our Chill-Out Room to lie down or relax. There will be low lighting\, comfortable seating\, cushions\, mats\, ear defenders\, earplugs and sensory toys. \nWho can come\nThis workshop is for people aged 14 to 19 years old and disabled people aged 14 to 25 years old.

One ticket per person\, and one member of the group needs to be aged 5-25 with autism spectrum conditions or sensory processing differences. Drop-in workshops are most suitable for ages 8-14. Drinks and snacks will be available. Join us for a free morning or afternoon event specifically designed for children and young people with autism spectrum conditions or sensory processing differences. The event offers children and young people the opportunity to visit the museum without the distraction of other visitors\, accompanied by their families\, carers or friends. Throughout each session there will be drop-in cartoon workshops with our cartoonist Steve Marchant\, as well as a self-led trail of the museum – or you can just use the time to explore the museum at your own pace. Chill-out zones and a range of creative tools\, including Sensory Bags which are free to borrow\, are available for visitors to enjoy within the exhibition. \nA Visual Story will be sent to visitors in advance of their visit to help them prepare for the experience of visiting the Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer Portrait Award 2025 exhibition. \nRelaxed Mornings have been designed for visitors to enjoy our exhibitions independently; please be aware these sessions do not include a tour or workshop. \nImportant information: \nTickets and cloakroom are free\, but booking is essential to reserve your place.\nA carer or companion does not need to book a ticket.\nGuide and assistance dogs are very welcome in the Gallery. October 27.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOverview\nOur free Relaxed Monday events have been specifically designed for children and young people with autism spectrum conditions or sensory processing differences.\nEvents this year: February 17th. April 7th. May 26th. July 28th. August 4th. August 25th. October 27.Events are free\, but advance booking is essential. One ticket per person\, and one member of the group needs to be aged 5-25 with autism spectrum conditions or sensory processing differences. Drop-in workshops are most suitable for ages 8-14. Drinks and snacks will be available. Join us for a free morning or afternoon event specifically designed for children and young people with autism spectrum conditions or sensory processing differences. The event offers children and young people the opportunity to visit the museum without the distraction of other visitors\, accompanied by their families\, carers or friends. Throughout each session there will be drop-in cartoon workshops with our cartoonist Steve Marchant\, as well as a self-led trail of the museum – or you can just use the time to explore the museum at your own pace. We cannot be responsible for any attendees. DESCRIPTION:This event welcomes people with disabilities\, neurodivergent individuals and anyone with sensory needs seeking a calmer environment in which to visit the Hiroshige: artist of the open road exhibition.\nThe first exhibition on Hiroshige to be held at the British Museum\, and the first on the artist in London for more than a quarter of a century\, this is a visually stunning portrait of a country about to change forever. \nFrom fashionable figures and energetic city views to remote landscapes and impressions of the natural world\, Utagawa Hiroshige (1797–1858) captured many aspects of life in the Japan of his time. Stunning bird-and-flower prints reveal his poetic feeling for nature while his evocative landscapes reflected the growing interest in travel across Japan. Hiroshige portrayed his world sometimes as it was\, but often the way he imagined it could be. \nThe exhibition features prints\, drawings\, illustrated books and paintings from the British Museum collection\, as well as a significant gift and loan of prints from Alan Medaugh\, a major US collector of Hiroshige’s work\, and other important loans.
