One ticket per person\, and one member of the group needs to be aged 5-25 with autism spectrum conditions or sensory processing differences. Drop-in workshops are most suitable for ages 8-14. Drinks and snacks will be available. Join us for a free morning or afternoon event specifically designed for children and young people with autism spectrum conditions or sensory processing differences. The event offers children and young people the opportunity to visit the museum without the distraction of other visitors\, accompanied by their families\, carers or friends. Throughout each session there will be drop-in cartoon workshops with our cartoonist Steve Marchant\, as well as a self-led trail of the museum – or you can just use the time to explore the museum at your own pace. DESCRIPTION:This event welcomes people with disabilities\, neurodivergent individuals and anyone with sensory needs seeking a calmer environment in which to visit the Hiroshige: artist of the open road exhibition.\nThe first exhibition on Hiroshige to be held at the British Museum\, and the first on the artist in London for more than a quarter of a century\, this is a visually stunning portrait of a country about to change forever. \nFrom fashionable figures and energetic city views to remote landscapes and impressions of the natural world\, Utagawa Hiroshige (1797–1858) captured many aspects of life in the Japan of his time. Stunning bird-and-flower prints reveal his poetic feeling for nature while his evocative landscapes reflected the growing interest in travel across Japan. Hiroshige portrayed his world sometimes as it was\, but often the way he imagined it could be. \nThe exhibition features prints\, drawings\, illustrated books and paintings from the British Museum collection\, as well as a significant gift and loan of prints from Alan Medaugh\, a major US collector of Hiroshige’s work\, and other important loans. These contain: Noise cancelling headphones\, magnifying glass sheets for reading any printed text\, a large print guide and a stress ball\nRun regular disability awareness sessions with our staff\nProvide a safe/calm space to help assist visitors who may be overwhelmed due to the new environment\nThis autumn\, Somerset House proudly presents Infinite Bodies\, a groundbreaking exhibition dedicated to the polymath practice of internationally renowned choreographer and director Sir Wayne McGregor CBE. Marking the culmination of Somerset House’s 25th birthday celebrations\, it will offer a bold exploration of McGregor’s three-decade career. \nThis landmark exhibition explores how McGregor’s investigations into the body\, movement and cutting-edge digital technologies have radically redefined our perception of physical intelligence. A series of multi-sensory choreographic installations\, performances and experiments will take over Somerset House’s Embankment Galleries\, including spectacular new commissions. Extending the experience beyond Somerset House\, a major off-site installation will also be presented at Stone Nest in London’s West End — forming part of a city-wide celebration of Infinite Bodies. \nReflecting the collaborative nature that defines Studio Wayne McGregor’s creative home in East London\, the exhibition features collaborations with world-leading artists\, designers\, musicians\, and technologists\, such as Industrial Light & Magic\, artist group Random International\, Oscar-winning sound designer Nicolas Becker\, renowned music producer LEXX\, and artists Ben Cullen Williams and Jeffrey Shaw. DESCRIPTION:What you’ll do\nJoin a hands-on\, creative workshop where you can playfully experiment with light\, colour\, shadows and projection. You’ll have the chance to create your own large-scale\, moving artworks. This is a space to play\, explore\, and create without fear of getting it wrong – just bring your curiosity. \nThe workshop will be led by artists Maral Mamaghanizadeh and Alice Bowen-Churchill from Spectroscope\, and is inspired by the ‘1880 THAT’ exhibition  by Christine Sun Kim & Thomas Mader\, and the ‘Finger Talk’ installation by Cathy Mager. \nTogether\, we’ll explore what it feels like to live with the threat of losing one’s language and the expressive power of our hand gestures and movements – whether or not you know British Sign Language (BSL). \nThis workshop will be guided in BSL\, with voice over interpreters available for non-signers. \nThere will be a Chill-Out Room available with low lighting\, comfortable seating\, cushions\, mats\, ear defenders\, earplugs and sensory toys. \nWho can come\nThis workshop is for people aged 14 to 19 years old and disabled people aged 14 to 25 years old.

DESCRIPTION:Come along to our Sensory Friendly monthly workshop for neurodiverse visitors of all ages and their families.  \nAs a family you’ll get to design\, make\, experiment and draw using lightboxes\, overhead projectors and a range of materials. Play with light and dark\, reflections\, shadows\, and colours.  \nIf you need a break\, there will be a breakout space available through the day\, with one within the event space and the other nearby. This space will have: a blackout tent\, cushions\, sensory toys\, and ear defenders. \nAll activities are optional\, and you can visit at any point during the event timings\, between 11am – 4pm. However\, please book your tickets to give us an idea if you’re likely to visit us earlier 11am-1:30pm\, or later in the day 1:30-4pm. \nThese sessions are created and led by Groundswell Arts. \nThis is an activity for families where either a child or the parent/ carer/ guardian has a neurodiversity or sensory processing disorder. This is a free\, drop-in event for families to enjoy all together; no child can be left unattended. Suitable for ages 5+. \nAll materials will be provided\, all sourced sustainably. There are many steps throughout the Tower with cobbles laid in some of the surfaces and pathways. There is a moving walkway (‘travelator’) alongside the Crown Jewels. Our Palace Hosts will be happy to stop the travelator. \nMobility aids\nA wheelchair is available free of charge. These cannot be pre-booked and are issued on a first-come first-served basis. It can be obtained by speaking to a member of staff on entry. \nLifts and ramps\nThere is a lift in the White Tower\, which will take you to and from the shop in the basement. This is on the north side of the White Tower\, opposite the entrance to the Crown Jewels. For safety reasons\, we can only permit one wheelchair user in the basement at a time. Please ask a member of staff in the area for assistance. \nThere is a platform lift at the end of the moving walkway in the Crown Jewels exhibition\, which allows you to access the raised platform to spend more time viewing the Crown Jewels. It is not suitable for mobility scooters. Please ask a member of the Jewel House team to use the lift.

Hand dryers in all of the toilets inside the Museum will also be turned off until 11am and paper towels will be available instead. \nWhich spaces will be open?\nThis is a special opening for The Robot Zoo exhibition located on the Lower Ground Floor. We will also be opening some of our main galleries\, details of which to be confirmed shortly. \nThe Gardens are open from 7.15am daily and are a nice place to relax in good weather. There is also a toilet block in the garden which is open until the Gardens close at 8.30pm. \nThe Museum and Café are open to everyone during the day until 5pm. \nA Chill Out space in our Education Centre will be open during the event.  Although there is no eating or drinking allowed in the Galleries you can eat and drink in the Chill Out space. \nHow do I get there?\nPlease take a look for directions on our website. DESCRIPTION:We welcome you to come and explore the museum at our relaxed morning. This special event is for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and or Neurodivergence and their families.  \nThis is a self-guided session but there will be sensory activities\, symbol trails and fidget toys you can borrow if you like and our friendly staff will be available to help.  \nThis is the first time we have offered a relaxed opening and we’d love your feedback on the day as we plan to have more accessible activities. \nWhat to expect \nFewer visitors than usual (maximum 25\, instead of 80)\, so the Museum will be quieter than usual\, with minimal queuing outside\nLighting will be adjusted for a calm experience\nNoise will be adjusted where possible\, with hand driers in the toilets switched off and hand towels available instead\nA selection of tactile materials related to the Museum will be available to touch\nA chill out space will be available – just ask one of our friendly staff\nVisual story and a SEND family trail will be made available shortly\nVisiting & access information \nWe are in a Grade I listed\, 19th-century building\, so access to the Museum isn’t always straightforward. When planning your visit\, it might be useful to know the following: \nPlease get in touch before your visit and we’ll do everything we can to make sure you have a positive experience. Rhiannon\, our Public Programmes & Young People Manager\, will be in touch with everyone who books in advance of the session to learn about their access needs\nDue to the historic nature of the space\, we are only able to accommodate one wheelchair user per Relaxed Opening slot\nEverything in the Museum is on open display\, and we ask visitors not to touch anything\nThere is historic furniture throughout the Museum – please don’t sit on the chairs. Please ask our friendly staff if you need to sit down\nThe Museum has some uneven flooring\, with grilles in some places\, through which you can see the floor below\nThe walls are covered with objects\, some of which are extremely fragile\nSome areas are dark and narrow\nPlease note that the Museum will open to the public at 10am\, when we will remove the sensory baskets. Please feel free to continue your visit\, being aware that the Museum can get very busy and some spaces can feel a bit cramped\nTickets are free\, with limited spaces available\, and pre-booking is required.
