SUMMARY:Relaxed event - Hawaiʻi: a kingdom crossing oceans @ British Museum\, London
DESCRIPTION:This event welcomes people with disabilities\, neurodivergent individuals and anyone with sensory needs seeking a calmer environment in which to view Hawaiʻi: a kingdom crossing oceans.\nThe exhibition is a dazzling celebration of the artistry and history of Hawaiʻi. It brings together remarkable objects – from feathered cloaks worn by chiefs and finely carved deities\, to powerful shark-toothed weapons and bold contemporary works by Kānaka ʻŌiwi (Native Hawaiian) artists. \nIn 1824\, the young King Liholiho and Queen Kamāmalu travelled across vast oceans on a journey that would mark a turning point in the history of their kingdom\, Hawaiʻi. The exhibition commemorates over 200 years since this ill-fated royal visit and sheds light on Hawaiʻi’s history and culture through an exploration of the complex and enduring relationship between the Hawaiian and British nations. \nThis event is part of the public programme supporting the exhibition Hawaiʻi: a kingdom crossing oceans (open until 25 May 2026). \nBooking information\n\nBook now(Opens in new window) to reserve your place.\nPlease meet at the Montague Place entrance at 6pm. View the Museum map(Opens in new window) for more information.\nAssistance dogs are very welcome in the Museum.\nIf you have any access requirements or need assistance booking this event please email access@britishmuseum.org or phone +44 (0)20 7323 8971.
